About Us
About Us
At Gonzo Outdoors, we believe the best stories are written outside.
"Outside" is where life happens—on winding trails, open water, back roads, backyards, and anywhere the sun finds you moving. We design high-quality apparel for those who don't wait for perfect conditions or perfect plans. Our gear is built to move, made to last, and comfortable enough to wear all day.
Whether you're hiking before dawn, casting a line at first light, or sitting around a campfire with friends, Gonzo Outdoors exists to get you out there. But for us, this brand isn't just about gear—it’s built on a deeply personal journey of resilience, family, and the restorative power of nature.
Where the Journey Began: Facing the Storm
Gonzo Outdoors was born out of real-world battles. Over the past few years, our family’s life was completely reshaped by a relentless series of medical challenges that tested everything we had.
-
February 2023: After experiencing severe discomfort in her legs, my wife was diagnosed with a tumor at the base of her spine. Doctors initially told us it was inoperable and could only be managed through pain management.
-
Spring 2023: During a routine physical in April/May, she mentioned a lump she noticed during a self-check. Her primary physician immediately ordered testing, leading to an official breast cancer diagnosis. In June 2023, she underwent surgery and a lymph node dissection, where doctors found the cancer had begun to spread. Caught at Stage 2, she endured a grueling 18 weeks of chemotherapy from July through late November 2023.
-
December 2023: While checking in for her reconstruction surgery, we experienced a true Godsend. A volunteer guide noticed my wife walking gingerly and asked about it. When my wife shared the story of her inoperable spinal tumor, this incredible lady took it upon herself to recommend a top neurosurgeon she knew could help.
-
January 2024: Following her reconstruction recovery, we met with the new neurosurgeon. Comprehensive MRIs revealed the spinal tumor, ruptured discs, and additional neurological issues that prompted a referral to a specialist. In late January 2024, she received her third life-altering diagnosis: Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
-
July 2024: Because chemotherapy had put her MS into temporary remission, surgeons cleared her for a complex 360-degree spinal surgery—successfully removing the tumor and placing cages for her discs.
Since then, we’ve been working daily to adjust to a "new normal" that is anything but normal. Navigating chronic conditions, ongoing scans, specialist visits, and mounting medical bills reshaped our entire world.
Finding Sanctuary in the Mountains
During the darkest, most overwhelming seasons of this fight, I found myself turning back to the backcountry.
Stepping away from the noise, getting out on the trail, and immersing myself in nature became my ultimate reset. The mountains provided a sanctuary to clear the mental clutter, process the weight of what we were facing back home, and regain the mental strength needed to keep fighting. The trail didn't change our circumstances, but it gave me the endurance, courage, and perspective to stand strong for my family.
I realized that fresh air really does fix a lot—and that the healing found on the trail was something bigger than just my own story. I wanted to build a community and a brand dedicated to helping others find that same strength, no matter what mountains they are climbing.
Our Mission & Community
The outside doesn't require permission. It doesn't demand expertise. It just asks you to show up.
Our mission is simple: inspire and equip more people to get outside, move, and find healing in everything life has to offer.
When you wear Gonzo Outdoors, you aren't just a customer—you’re part of a trail family. We are a community that values grit, curiosity, and joy. We cheer each other on through life's toughest climbs, share our experiences, and always make room at the campfire for one more.
Purpose Beyond the Trail: How We Give Back
Giving back isn't an afterthought here; it's the core foundation of why Gonzo Outdoors exists.
We know firsthand that for many, the trail is a place of refuge. That’s why we are deeply committed to using this brand as a vehicle to support causes close to our hearts:
-
Supporting Our Family: A portion of proceeds directly helps our family manage ongoing medical expenses, treatments, and required MRIs resulting from my wife's diagnoses and surgeries.
-
National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF): Funding vital research, early detection, and support services for patients and families navigating breast cancer.
-
National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS): Supporting research, advocacy, and resources for individuals living with MS.
We believe in living "On the Path"—with Strength, Endurance, and Courage. Partnering with NBCF and NMSS, while sharing our family’s story transparently, allows us to stand beside everyone fighting battles that require all three.
Every time you support Gonzo Outdoors—whether by gearing up, sharing our journey, or donating directly to our campaign—you are funding hope, awareness, and real impact for communities that need it most.
Join the Family
So lace up, load up, cast off, or tee up. Wherever you’re headed and whatever mountain you're climbing today, we’re with you.
Welcome to the trail family.
